John Bjarne Grover

A year or two ago I stopped at the free books box outside Kuppitsch at Schottentor and took a 2 vol english-serbocroatian dictionary that was put out for anybody who could need it. Some months ago I came past the same place and a 20-vol Brockhaus paperback lexicon packed in a cardboard box some 30-40 cm was put out there - I first took it but then a man hopped out from a fastfood place and starting pulling his trousers up ('brok-haus' it could be called in norwegian). This gratis book box at Kuppitsch is often quite poor on offers - others such as the one near Literaturhaus is much more interesting. Could it have been a 'trap' the first time as well - the 2-vol dictionary? It was published in Beograd, Yugoslavia (as it was still called) in 1974 and it contained the name (potentially quasi significant) and address of a private person probably from those days - a once owner, one would believe. Here are the inside title pages - the two volumes are quite thick, and equally thick:
