Caravaggio's 'Calling of Matthew' has certain affinities with part 2 Unter Gesellschaft #30 'Das Fenster stand dunkel' of my 'Der Dornenstrauch'.
Most notably, the surprising line 'zu zahlen mit Geld' seems to have some explanation in Caravaggio's work. It seems to suggest that Christ (to the right) is a sort of 'purkinje' light.
My Unter Gesellschaft #30 (mentioned also in this article) is #104 in the mirror half of 'Der Dornenstrauch' - counting 214 poems up (1-214) and 214 poems down (214-1) plus another 12 in the end. The poem of absolute enumeration #104 in the first half is relative enumeration #74o 'Etwas muss es dich sein' (syntax as lax as Christ's finger) - perhaps even more to the point for Caravaggio's work ('Ring aus Edelstein' etc).
Chinese radical (214 system) #104 is this - which seems to suggest the table-end to the left with one hand from the bearded man and two from Matthew. Plus his thigh underneath?
The page on this sign seems to suggest that it is the 'second-round simplified form' (whatever that means) of this sign - which could invoke ideas of an 'earlier stage' - before the man with his back to the observer had started moving rightways. Or it simply means this movement.
