Jacopo Bassano

John Bjarne Grover

On background of the theory in this file, the artist Jacopo Bassone could apparently be considered a function 10 type:

1. Flight to Egypt (from this source) = TEQ #606 = volume 2 page 694. (The veil of the Madonna is a 'net' type which could look like a 'nail' ground so ghostly manteled - see this excerpt from the reproduction in "I maestri del colore").

2. Maria mit Kind und den hll. Martin und Antonius Abbas (Madonna on the throne with child and saints) (from this source) = TEQ #637 = volume 2 page 725 (notice the characters and emotional expressions in the saints)

3. Lazarus and the Rich Man (from this source) = TEQ #638 = volume 2 page 726 (the 'femme' probably has her thigh/leg in the form of the bent arm of the leaning man)

4. The Three Magi (from this source) = TEQ #614 = volume 2 page 702 (it looks like rope or 'macrame' under the rosy 'belt' - this artwork could explain the 'mazher' in terms of 'mash/mesh'). A better but byte-consuming reproduction is found under this link).

5. Santa Giustina in trono e i santi Sebastiano, Antonio Abate e Rocco (from this source) = TEQ #652 = volume 2 page 741 (seems to be the 'Belcez' theme)

6. Santi Pietro e Paolo (from this source) = TEQ #653 = volume 2 page 742

7. Crocifissione (from this source) = TEQ #655 = volume 2 page 744

8. Garden of Eden (from this source) = TEQ #657 = volume 2 page 746

Added 1 march 2023: I have to add this exraordinary example, not the least for its explanatory value relative to the matters discussed in this file, particularly the issue of the role of the acoustics in TEQ book 16 - on the background also of the discussion in this file (from 2004):

9. Il martirio di santa Caterina d'Alessandria (from this source) = TEQ #683 = volume 2 page 776

It is seen that the artwork is remarkably close to my poem - and that it be about the anatomy of the bones of the middle ear:

For the 'Bankok' in TEQ #683, I could perhaps refer to the mystery of these apparently ex nihilo knocking sounds reported in this file.

My source for Bassano artworks to study is the collection of 16 works (of good reproduction quality) presented in the booklet #40 (1964) in the series "I maestri del colore" by Fratelli Fabbri Editori, Milano. Is the selection of artworks 'too close' to my poems in TEQ book 10? I had not seen this book before recently - but a good guess could be that the selection is guided by an intuition on these 'poetic function' matters. I would guess that Bassano could be of 'function 10' type also in his other works.
