Catcher in the rye
John Bjarne Grover
It happened not long after I had bought the house in Szolnok - on the vast hungarian puszta - in june 2015 - one summer night I woke up and lit the light and saw an apparent animal stand on the middle of the floor looking up at me in the bed. It was appr 10-15 cm long with a black shining Panzer. It looked like a miniature Volkswagen (or is it vice versa?) - in particular when it started to move under the bed and it apperared to move on wheels or something equivalent - it was a steady movement without the jumpy movement of legs. I stepped out of bed and found a plastic container to catch it in - when I moved the bed out from the wall it did not escape but seemed to be stuck at some electric cables under there. I put the plastic container over it and shuffled some cardboard under and went out and threw it into the garden night - I did not take the chance on inspecting it closer.
Some days or weeks later a huge apparent weed-plant had sprung up on the place where it may have landed - this green weed plant had a wing span of about 2 metres and was less than or about a metre high and produced thorny and chestnut-like fruits. It seemed to explore every angle it could find - as if it tried to bend the space as far open as it could. It had also grown some (or at least one) megaphone- or trumpet-like white flower from out of a green tube:
I don't know which plant this is but would not be surprised to find that it is among the most powerful and common weeds. There was also one smaller one behind the wooden shed.
The next year (2016) I noticed one summer morning a sudden and surprising amount of tall grasses which could have been rye that had sprung up on no time on this selfsame place. They seemed to have sprouted up rather overnight since I had not noticed them a few days earlier - or was it even the day before.
I would guess that it is normal grass but it looks to an amateur as if it could have been rye, sort of. The waveform was quite impressive - it burst up in the air from the place where the green plant stood the year before - which was the place where the 'animal' could have landed when I threw it out in the night. (I add that a millipede or centipede appeared for a brief moment on an inside wall the evening before the straw appeared in the garden - and I have never seen such animal neither before nor after).
Was the animal overnatural? Was it the 'welcomer' telling that I could live there? Or was it a remote-controlled gag-bug with camera from puerile spies?
For the huge weed, I discovered that Yeats' poem 'The rose tree' seems to be about this. It is in his book 'Michael Robartes and the dancer'.
If my tentative theory that the untimely death of Indira Gandhi served to encode the concept 'a far cry' makes any sense, I notice that it happened while Thatcher was PM in England - and hence this 'Catcher in the rye' has a correlate in a 'Thatcher and a far cry'.
'In dyr [= in animal?] a Grover'? I do not remember whether the 'animal' appeared before or after the note from the chimney sweeper that they would come and sweep. For me that notice was a tragedy since it meant opening the roof only few days after my 'fresh start'. But who opened the skull - I mean, in 1957, if that were the story? 'In dyr a Kennedy' could have been the message contained in the name of Gandhi - although it is of course possible that this could have been contained in the letter of Paul Celan to his wife of 5 september 1960 - such as also Gandhi's death could have turned it into 'In dyr a Grover' - by 'a far cry'. But that is only if the chimney sweeper were a part of the story of the 'animal' of 2015, which perhaps was not the case.
The official archives tell that the house was built in 1970 - but the door inside suggests that it is much older. The idea arises that 1823 could be the year when a 'John Grover' built the house - hungarian name form 'Ligeti János'. If he is there under the rye, it is 'Liget til János' = 'John's body'.
As Yeats' poem tells, if a story of modern political intrigue is constructed around this 'animal-from-heaven' (a sort of bird-reality 'man-on-wagon'?), it is the poetic quality and angelic flavour of the story which is charming and sympathetic - such as Yeats could tell it - not the death of Gandhi, for example. 'Ear' (of rye or grass) is called 'aks' in norwegian, hence the idea of 'axis of evil' is potentially related.
I refer also to my photo #4 from the Danube Island - about the throwing out of the animal. Could be it has an archetypal value.
(The title 'Catcher in the rye' is the title of J.D.Salinger's 1951 novel).
Added on 1 may 2017:
It must be added that the 'rose tree' and the 'rye' came up rather precisely between two suspended ivy plants that had been put up by the former owners - each of them constitute a good heap of ivy that are lifted up by a metal wire to the height of a metre or a little more - hence they look like two female breasts held up by a string of male ejaculation - that could mean the 'Eve-stropping' of 'eaves-dropping'. The 'rose tree' stood rather between these, under the metal wire, and the 'rye' was a little displaced but nearly at the place where the 'rose tree' stood. Yeats' poem is from 1921 or thereabout - at the time of the 'onset of modernism'?
It is possible that the norwegian word 'tidsaksen' for the concept of 'time axis' = 'time dimension' in the FFT over 'keys to heaven' in Acts 10 is a part of the sad story of the assassination of Indira Gandhi on Halloween in 1984, in which case 'Sikh-tatsen' = the 'paw' of the sikh (who had held the smoking gun) could have been the key to the story. It was Beant Singh who shot the three first shots at a wicket gate - he surrendered and was shot dead and probably fell to the ground. He had been one of Gandhi's most trusted guards for a decade, tells the internet. The other was Satwant Singh - could be the idea would have been 'sat wand' = the inmate of a prison or a bullet in a cartridge triggered by the 'Beamte' who unlocks the inmate. I must tell that I worked as a prison guard in the summer 1978 or 1979 - a few weeks. I had gone to the work office in Fredrikstad and asked if they had a summer job for me and they asked me if I could take the job as prison guard in the local Old Town prison - only a dozen cells or a little more. The woman who asked me had first looked at my name - could be it was the 'jung röver' which was the reason why she asked.
The frequency dimension (in the Fourier transform) = norw. 'frekvens-aksen' - which could be related to 'frekk-venns-elán' = 'naughty friend's elan [vital]'. Vibeke Gröver returned from a year in Aberdeen in 1976 with Nick who made her pregnant before he went back to England, while Tone Helene Gröver later was for a year or so in Nicaragua for studying the revolution there.
In the summer 1974 (probably not 1973) I worked for a few weeks in the summer as a worker at the paint producers DeNoFa Lilleborg on Řra. A co-worker once called me 'Tarzan' probably because of my skinny format. (There had also been the murder of the old mother Apenes on 6 may 1978 - at the time of the death of Aldo Moro in Italy - on Kongsten = 'Kingstone' - on the way to Řra - hence 'king of the apes' = Tarzan - I have never murdered anybody). In the spring 1977 I worked as a teacher in a private children school at Haugsvik in western Norway, returning east to Fredrikstad in the summer 1977 when I got a job as hotdog bread driver (to hotdog kiosks around the county) for baker Krabseth. I think this was 1977 - but maybe it was in the summer 1976 as well? In the autumn 1977 I worked as postman in the Greĺker district around Rekustad between Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg, and in the same autumn 1977 I got a job as library assistant in Fredrikstad which I had throughout 1978. In the summer 1978 or 1979 I worked for a few weeks as prison guard in the local prison of the Old Town, only a few metres from my home. In a christmas somewhat later (could be 1980?) I worked for a few weeks at the plastic product producers Panco. This series of jobs arguably looks not good compared with the data from the death of Indira Gandhi but of course I was not involved and never associated these jobs with that sort of thing - it was work I got from what I believed was coincidences or administration somehow. If there is 'a burden' associated with the story, it could have been linked to these jobs I had - but I was not involved in that construction and I certainly do not want to be associated with 'a burden' on the administrations or people of India or China.
I also worked for several years (while studying at the university) as freelance part-writer (mostly writing orchestral parts from the scores) which is called 'note-skriver' in norwegian. The first such job was for the norwegian composer's union in probably 1979 (if not 1978) but soon NMI of the state (the state-funded Norsk Musikk-Informasjon) was established and I worked for them (and the norwegian opera and the main music publisher) with freelance jobs up to 1993. I discovered, after I had published the above article on 28 april, that since the anus is called an 'after' the higher-up corner in the abdomen between the rectum and the colon (which seems to be 'politically' interesting for a logic which tries to lift mankind up like Münchhausen) could be called an 'if-then' = 'syllogismen'. Reading this backwards produces something like 'nem-Sziget-Utca' = 'NOT Sziget Utca'. I must emphasize that it was not this sort of NOT-e-writer I worked as. It is possible that if a penis be replaced by another, such as the 'dollfoot' problems which possibly Celan could have experienced, and I notice that Indira Gandhi met Bruno Kreisky in Wien before she died on Halloween, it is possible that the penis may behave somewhat 'telepathically' with varying diameters on both sides of the point of attachment between the old and new - say, under certain circumstances which I have no overview over. (A penis is a sort of 'anti-muscle' which could be telling of the humans being held contrary to gravitation by the combination of skeleton and muscle). It could be this 'telepathy' which lends a teasing value of 'primacy of matter' for a strategy against e.g. materialism - suggesting that divine authorities nevertheless may be 'involved', so to speak - although I doubt that a strategy of 'strangulation' would allow the divine authorities to lend their powers to the strangulators or the ones they work for. It is not impossible that the assassination of Indira Gandhi could have been linked to attempts to turn the body around and that occasional jobs I have had could have been abused for making me appear like a 'burden'.
The 'rose tree' weed plant or what it was occurred in the garden rather between the two ivys, under the string, while the 'rye' the next year was a little off that spot but quite near.
