Articles about Hans-Henrik Holm
John Bjarne Grover
The norwegian poet Hans-Henrik Holm writing in the 'nynorsk' dialect of Setesdalen seems possibly to have been burdened down by abuse - were the 1360 poems of his 3-volume 'Villages in sunsmoke' used as template for the more than 1000 episodes of the US radio and TV series about villains in 'Gunsmoke'? See also the article on the somewhat weakly founded theory that one of his poems could have been abused for a possible assassination of Lenin in 1924 - which also could have been a part of the reason for later abuse - and is now apparently about to be left unmentioned in modern literary overviews. The dialect he wrote in is also considered too difficult to be easily understood for normal norwegians of the present day - and if the people in 'Setesdal' still speak the original dialect, there are only some 6500 of those. I have translated the poems I discuss in the following articles - a total of 13 of his poems I have tentatively translated for the discussion of them. Most of these are in the first article where there are the 7 poems in his last book of mainly prose - see also the discussion of the poem 'Fråhaldskrav'.
